Alternative role for LoUD: Good/Evil sides with minions
I thought it would be an interesting spin on the game to add a darkside or evil element to the game. When creating a world you can choose good or evil, each choice would not give advantages or disadvantages. Dwarfs would be for the greater good, a goblin lord/mage for evil. Dwarfs would have automatons or machines for servants while the evil would have goblins for minions. Minions for both sides go to do their masters biding, like building, raiding, or mining. Dwarfs would aquire automatons through ores while evil aquires theirs through magic. The goal would be to spread your influence throughout the randomly generated world. In evils wake would be dead trees and grass, along with grey skies and ocasional rain. In goods wake would be green grass and live trees with blue skies and villages depending on the areas influence level. This idea, if implemented, would likly be added near end of development due to the vast scale this idea is and how much work would be needed to do it. Just so you know, the direction Aaron has wanted to go with the game has been towards a competitive RTS type of gameplay pitting Dorfs against Goblins, so you would inherently have the option of being either in that game mode.

Beyond that, having a corruption/hallow type of thing like in Terraria could be interesting, whether or not it is related to your class/race.
