Here's a nice, neat little place to put all your comments about Alpha 0.53!

Will have to check it out later - I was kinda busy over the weekend, but I should have time today to take a look. Big Grin

This was probably a whole "under the hood" progress, without much of playability chance.

Now theres even larger blackholes between blocks.
Atleast with the grass. Doesn't bother playability tought.

Scythe would be nice, as you need to remove grass everywhere before digging Smile

One tiny bug found Smile Wait, was this on earlier version too...

When you are crafting like armor, and you directly drag and drop it to helmet box,
it cancel your crafting, but still takes the resourses away Smile
Offcourse with multiplayer if you try that with blocks! Tongue

Still it would be nice to betatest if you could gather your ingredients and store them somehow.
Would get easier to find bugs when you get progress.
I would not mind even a buggy storing items. Smile

But yeah, briefly said, the hex packing is quite important difference,
when playing around now Smile Works much better.
These under the hood developments takes times and i understand why it needet to be done Smile

The "black holes between grass" problem was something I wanted to address and ran out of time -- the models just need to be tweaked a little.

But Aaron, Uberdark needs more black holes randomly spawning in worlds. Why would you want to remove those?

Just said I was gonna address it -- tweak the models to make the holes bigger, 'ya know...

So has anybody tried digging a little fort yet? I spent a little while building one this morning... Think it'll be a lot easier once helpers can mine and build too

I did dig under the lake of course Smile Water is funny now...
More like a little invading creatures coming to you Smile
Then they push you "inside" wall... Yeah, i know its in phase Smile

Throw couple bombs and watch how water dance is made for enemies and dorf Tongue

Usually when you find sweet enviroinment spot to build something with ease,
you have already wandered far from start point collecting resourses.
Then you need to get rid of all weeds before forming ground.
After you patch something quickly and realise how slow its to build something straight Tongue

Next day you have forget the direction and just wander for someplace else Smile
I would say, the weeds "tall grass" and "barley" is everywhere to disrupt you. :/

Aaron, what causes the biggest performance impact in the game? I went into the setup.txt file and changed neardistance and fardistance to over 10x their initial values, and my game still ran at roughly the same framerate.

RE: Uberdark Alpha 0.53 Comments - aaron - 07-16-2015 01:36 PM

Biggest performance impact is typically rendering all those little globs of dirt and whatnot -- every time the render distance doubles, the number of blocks quadruples (roughly). I think there's a maximum distance limit of 160 or so, due to the size of the local world map that is kept in memory (though that could be increased easily) -- so when you told it 10x, it may not have really been 10x

What frame rate are you getting? If it's slow, it could also be something with locking between threads
